If you have a house, you can now watch TV with any critters you have. The link for TV is at the bottom of the page in your house (in usertown). Note that watching TV in the real world is not highly recommended: you would often be better off reading a book or visiting Mudcritters!

Whoever finds ther amulet of Yendor in the Maze get to keep the only one in the game. As well as being valuable, it allows you to take ownership of the Palace of Yendor in usertown.

Put a comment in the chat room, or send an email, if you want to see more Flash-based games or not. The existing ones are at the Seaside. Some people like them but others have complained that they don't want to, or can't, use Flash.

If you find a bug, please report it. You can just drop a note in the help forum. Sometimes a bug that's bothering you may not even show up on our computers unless you tell us about it.

Bug Found
Emerald helped us find a bug in the new-user creation systems. Now we know why we haven't had many new accounts for a week or two. Thanks!

New games (Lava Tunnel and Bacteria Storm) were added to the Seaside area. Both need Macromedia Flash 6 plugin to installed in your browser.

Thanks to Tazzy for reporting a serious bug that prevented people from buying pets at the petshop. It's fixed.

The Frobozz Magic Company has returned from bankrupcy and is back in the stock market. Unfortunately, everybody who had shares int he bankrupt shares lost all their money. Too bad, that's just how the stock market works. Be careful and take note of what comapnys are safe and relaibel and which are risky.

There have been some improvements to the chat rooms and help area to let you find comments from specific people.

The mudcritters store sells shirts, lunchboxes, cups and other stuff with either a science theme or mudcritters logo. This is real-world stuff, not just inside the mudcritters world. Until the last day of May 2003 you were able to use the code DADGRADS to buy real mudcritters or science items with a $5 discount (real money). The stuff is still available though.

We accidentally introduced a bug in the maze that a few users may have seen, where it would complain about "script errors". That bug is was fixed in Feb 2004.

There was a problem back in 2003 in the Region of Doom where some of the waiting critters were not showing up. The seating capacity of that area was not set of for as many critters as now exist in this world. It's fixed now (at least until we get more than 50,000 critters).

Older news...

For older news, see the back pages.

When we remodeled the Village a while ago, we lost some features. They're back again -- you can find the memory game, for example, inside the Library.

Some improvements to the Maze of the Unknown have been made. Digging works properly and some problems with teleporters and other special features at lower levels are fixed up. If you haven't been down in the maze recently, try it! To get to the really good levels you might have to buy a key from somebody though. If you find the maze confusing or have other suggestions, please make them in the Help forum.

The nail hammering game in the Village was not paying properly. It should be paying everybody who works at it now. If not, please let us know.

The look of the Village has been totally remodeled. The face-lift is not quite over, but you can check it out now.

If you visit the new FINANCIAL BUILDING in the Village, you can get to the new Mudcritters STOCK MARKET. It's also home the the ADOPTION AGENCY, where you can rapidly get rid of excess pets.

Those of you who have found an access ticket may have discovered the BATTLESHIPS game lurking at the Seaside. While it is not fully open yet, it is playable as a preview if you can find one of those tickets (they could also have been used for visiting the new Village before it was officially opened.) We have finally changed the login procedure so that you must type in your user name mudcritters, but we try and guess it for you when possible.

There is a new adoption agency in the Village, where you can quickly get rid of excess critters and get paid right away.

The newpaper has been upgraded a bit along with some other behind-the-scenes changes that should make the site run a bit faster. This includes the possibility that your critters will just find objects while you are doing other activities. The more critters you have, the greater the chance that one of them will find something.

More assorted items can now help you in the region of doom: mirrors, pens, swords, etc. If none of this stuff is available in the store, it can often be found in the maze.

Of course, we welcome your suggestions for improvements, changes or additions.

Did you notice that this newspaper now loads much faster most of the time? (Changed October 2002.)

The maze keeps track of who's explored the deepest.

The adventure games like Toonesia now give you money when you beat your previous high scores.

The financial pages show who's making or losing money, but only show the exact amount for your buddies.

The house-building interface has been improved, but it's still very costly to build a house.

Toonesia, a new region, is now open on an experimental basis.

A financial section has been added to this newspaper (that's page 2). Is it too hard to find? Please let us know.

Other news that came to some users in their mail...

August Mudcritters updates

Every user account must have a valid email address associated with it. Please check yours if there is any doubt it's up-to-date and working. If you haven't gotten email from us in over 2 months, there might be a problems (as we send news updates about every 4 to 6 weeks).

There is now a post office in the Village, where you can send messages to other players if you have then on your buddy list and they ALSO have you on their buddy list. (The buddy list rule prevents you from getting messages from strangers.)

There is a candy store in the Village now.

There have been some bugs fixed in the recently-added Cottage adventure that should make it easier to use if you try and pick up objects by clicking on them.

Some bugs in the Maze were fixed. You won't find lost items with blank names, anymore, I hope.

More Moons for Jupiter

Over the last year or two there have been a whole slew of new moons discovered around the planet Jupiter. Most of them don't have real names yet and they're very small. There are now over fifty of them! There are still only four big moons though, and they were all discovered long ago (by galileo). You can se them through a good telescope yourself!

More moons for Neptune

3 new moons have also been discovered around the planet Neptune a while ago. You can't use them in Mudcritters "Sky" area because the don't have names yet, but with this discovery Netpune now is known to have (at least) 11 moons. These last 3 are thought to be comets that were captured by the planet's gravity.

Mysterious Orb Yields Secrets

Several players visiting the cottage adventure have seen a pair of mysterious orbs outside the house. The use or purpose of these orbs has, until now, remained mysterious and attempts to manipulate them with the hammer have been unsuccessful, usually because the hammer is so heavy.

Now, it appears that the right diet can provide additional strength for later using the hammer and, used carefully, it at least one player has managed to wrest the secret(s) from one of the orbs.

This hint is a bit vague, but we would not want to give away the surprise.

The Financial Section is on the next page.
