Welcome to the mudcritters Tourist Information Center
. This is where you can get a few tips
on living in the mudcritters world. To learn about the
site itself you might also want to visit the "about this site"
tab at the top of the home page.
Term of use
Please note the following site rules: no rude, insulting or bad language anyplace.
In particular, in the chat
area. Also, if you create a critter or object be careful not to give it a rude or insulting name, or
one that suggests something offensive or inappropriate. Violation of this rule can lead to your account being
deleted (e.g. even a name like STINKY for a critter would be somewhat inappropriate).
Mudcritters has no legal obligation to you. We expect to keep running for a long time,
but we make no PROMISE that we will keep going or that you will keep your account.
You cannot sue us if we delete your critters or your account.
Common basic questions:
Question: How do I get started?
Answer: Click on one of the activities (or the login tab at the
top of the home page). There are things to do from the home page, as well
as the Village and the Seaside.
If you don't have an account yet then register.
Then explore the various places and buy a pet at the petshop.
Question: What is the objective or purpose of Mudcritters?
Answer: you can choose you own objective.
Some things players might try to do are:
Accumulate the most money.
Accumulate a lot of pets (one place to get them
is at the pet shop).
Build up the happiest group of pets.
Play lots of games.
Make good deals with other players.
Become a collector of interesting objects.
Build an impressive house (takes a lot of money first).
Vanquish other players in the region of doom.
Q. Some games don't work for me!
A.
Make sure "accept cookies" is on, in the preferences menu (if it isn't you should
have gotten a message saying so when you signed in). If you still have
problems please mention them in the chat area or email us.
Q. How do I get more money (also called
credits).
A. Money is hard to get quickly. You can
get some by winning at many of the
games. Some examples are the follwoing.
Knowledge game:
Play hangman (at the University)
Arcade-style game: Go to the Village, help against the ants (under the Post office).
Goofy game: Help hammer nails (at the Village).
You can also buy certain items, and
then sell them later. "Nuggets", for
example, if you can find them can be bought
for one price and often sold quickly at the market for
more money. Their price tends to move gradually upwards,
but be careful -- sometimes it can go down too.
Perhaps the best way to get money quickly is to explore the lower levels of
the
maze (in the unknown). You can either find money there, or
things you can sell (or keep).
Q. What are the symbols in the maze of the unknown?
A. Part of the challenge is figuring out what things are.
Some basics are:
# is plain ground.
$ is money.
@ is a stairway upwards.
o is hole going down to a lower level.
Q. How can I make my critters more happy?
A. One way would be to bring them to the movies in the Village.
Q. How win more often in the region of doom?
A. Get your critters smarter by taking to the library. Get them stronger by going to the gym.
Q. How can I make my critters less hungry?
A. Click on the tend your critters link on the left of the
main screen and feed them. This will also restore their health
points (HP). If you build a house and leave them there, they
will need less food.
Q. How does mudcritters compare with Neopets and how are they related?
A. Mudcritters apparently shares some themes with neopets, but any common stuff is
just coincidence, or maybe it should be called convergent evolution. We don't even log into
competing sites. Neopets also, supposedly, has a much more commercial focus (since they are
a business that's natural). By and large, we try and imbue the site with occasional education tidbits (like
naming critters after actual elements) which seems to be surprisingly unique in the on-line game world.
Q. Can I help with the development of the site?
A. We welcome suggestions. We are even willing to accept artwork or other material where appropriate, but it must
fit in with our plans and objectives for the site. You had better
send us an email to discuss it if you are interested.
